It is with deep regret that Chief Dennis Reall Jr. announces the passing of Charles H. Holdredge III. Charlie was a member of the Watch Hill Fire Department for 63-years serving the community in which he grew up. Charlie (affectionally know as "The Duke" by many for his love of John Wayne) was a constant supporter of all things Watch Hill, never missing a banquet, a dedication or even a poetry reading if a free meal was involved. Beyond the village in which he grew up Charlie was an avid patriot and supporter of many local sports teams. Charlie holds the unique distinction of being one of the only people voted into the Westerly High School Athletic Hall of Fame where he served as "The Voice" of the Bulldogs for over a quarter century as well as in the Stonington High School (his alma mater) Athletic Hall of Fame as a contibutor. The Watch Hill Fire Department's Squad 100 bears the nickname "The Voice" is in his honor.
As we venture through life and come to grips with our own mortality, one may ask themselves "how do I wish to be remembered?" As I think of my friend Charles Henry, a personal story teller, historian and mentor I think Charlie would answer this question quite simply-"I would consider it an honor to just be remembered." Mission accomplished "Duke", rest easy my friend and we will take it from here.
