On Wednesday, June 9th, firefighters of the Watch Hill Fire Department worked with over 30 seniors from the Wheeler High School, in North Stonington, CT, to collect and remove trash from Napatree Point.

Napatree Point is a long sandy spit created by a geologic process called longshore drift. Napatree extends 1.5 miles westward from the business district of Watch Hill, with Fishers Island Sound on one side and Little Narragansett Bay on the other. It is an important land mass that protects the Watch Hill Harbor and it is the southernmost and westernmost point of the mainland of Rhode Island.

The Napatree Point Conservation Area on Napatree Point is 86 pristine acres of some of the rarest habitats in Rhode Island. It is owned and managed by the Watch Hill Fire District and the Watch Hill Conservancy. Napatree is a community resource and is open to the public.

Watch Hill Firefighters drove the Fire Department ATV along the beach to help carry out the garbage that was collected, which included a tire and various metal debris. Naturalists with the Watch Hill Conservancy used their ATV to assist as well.

The seniors wanted to complete a project that benefitted the local community before their graduation on Friday.

They did a great job and their efforts are sincerely appreciated.

Congratulations to the Seniors and Thank You for your efforts!
