| The Watch Hill Fire Department responded to a report of a vessel taking on water in the area of the Watch Hill Lighthouse on Sunday July 17 at approximately 1:45 PM. Both of the Watch Hill Marine units responded to the area and began searching with assistance from the Westerly Rescue and the United States Coast Guard. After an extensive search, the vessel was located approximately two miles from its originally reported position. The vessel and its occupants were determined to be in no immediate danger and the Coast Guard took control of the vessel.
Shortly after returning, the Watch Hill Fire Department was dispatched to a motorcycle accident in the area of 11 Ocean View Highway. Engine 102 responded and found a male lying in the roadway. He was treated and then transported by Westerly Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
Less then an hour after returning from the accident, members were sent to a report of a capsized boat in the area of Sandy Point. Marine 100 was among the first on scene and found two victims still in the water. The victims were removed to another vessel and did not require medical treatment.
In total, the dedicated members of the Watch Hill Fire Department volunteered over 20 hours of service time to the local community on this busy Sunday afternoon. |
