Watch Hill Firefighters responded mutual aid with Marine 101 to a report of a capsized boat in New York waters near the Latimer Reef Lighthouse in Fishers Island Sound. The location is approximately three miles from the coast of Watch Hill off the western tip of Fishers Island in New York.

At the mutual aid request of the Stonington Borough Fire Department, multiple rescue boats from Watch Hill Fire in Rhode Island as well as from Pawcatuck Fire and Mystic Fire in Connecticut responded to the area to initiate search and rescue operations. A United States Coast Guard Boat, as Stonington Police Boat and a Tow Boat US salvage boat also responded.

Fortunately, it is fishing season and several people fishing in the area immediately rushed to aid the victims. The capsized boat was quickly located and the three victims were pulled from the water by these good Samaritans within ten minutes.

The victims were all conscious and appeared to be very cold but uninjured. They were transported by the Stonington Police Boat into Stonington Harbor for evaluation by Stonington Ambulance Emergency Medical Technicians and Stonington Borough Firefighters.

Tow Boat US took custody and control of the capsized vessel and were working with the owners to salvage it.
