Our continually expanding collection of over two hundred restored fire hydrants was featured this week in a facebook page called fancycrazyhydrants

The collection began with a few hydrants that were given to the chief by a retired firefighter and has expanded rapidly to include more than two hundred hydrants. Each hydrant is sandblasted, primed, and repainted in the colors of the town or city that they had originally served. Of course, a few hydrants were so rusted that the original colors could not be determined. Firefighters took a bit of liberty with those hydrants and that explains some of the more "flashy" colors. While a few people in the Fire District find the collection a bit tacky, the majority of the residents support the collection and bring their children and their guests to visit them on a regular basis.

Visitors are always welcome to stop by and check out the hydrants!
