The members of the Watch Hill Fire Department responded to a fully involved boat fire on Napatree Point in the early morning hours of September 1st. Upon dispatch and confirmation that the abondoned vessel was on fire, Chief Bob Peacock immediately requested a mutual aid response from the Misquamicut Fire Department for manpower and their ATV. Firefighters responded to the site using ATV's and extinguished the fire using water extingishers and portable pumps which drew water from the ocean. The members of the department remained on scene for nearly three hours to fully extinguish the burning remains of the vessel. Due to the quick work of the Watch Hill firefighters, the sensitive ecological areas of Napatree Point were safely preserved. The cause of the fire is being investigated by local authorities and is considered suspicious in nature. As always the members of the WHFD performed admirably in a difficult situation.
