Watch Hill Firefighters were dispatched near dusk on Saturday night to a report of a boat capsized in the ocean off Watch Hill point with four people in the water. Marine 101 and Squad 100 responded to the scene. The first arriving fire units were able to confirm that the victims were out of the water and on the rocks with what appeared to be minor injuries. The overturned boat was also on the rocks on the East side of Lighthouse Point and several area fishermen were assisting the boaters. The victims were treated for minor injuries and were warmed up before being transported back to their dock in Avondale.

A wrecker with a rotator boom or a small crane will be used to remove the boat this week.

Westerly Police, Westerly Ambulance, DEM Environmental Police, US Coast Guard, and Sea Tow also responded to the scene to assist.

An important reminder during fishing season as the weather changes and the air and water temperatures drop. Please wear a Personal Flotation Device at all times while boating and please maintain continual awareness of the rapidly changing sea and weather conditions.
