The Watch Hill Fire Department joined members of the Misquamicut Fire Department and Charlestown Ambulance-Rescue Service in a joint water rescue training off the Benson Avenue beach in Misquamicut on Tuesday August 20th. The multi objective training allowed members of each of the three agencies to train in removing victims from the water. Charlestown deployed 4 of their highly skilled rescue swimmers from the shoreline along with a floating stokes basket, a device used to transport patients. With simulated victims in the water, the crew of rescue swimmers packaged the patient and then crews from the boats loaded them on to their vessels for transport. We also practiced using the Misquamicut FD rescue jet ski to transport victims and equipment.

We always enjoy the opportunity to train along side of our mutual aid agencies and to continue to sharpen our skills. It was also a great opportunity to see the rescue swimmer program in action as several of our own members will be heading off to a week long rescue swimmer program in the fall!
