Why Do Firefighters Train?

Training is the backbone of a fire department. Training produces a well-prepared force that through repetition increases the speed of an operation and enhances proper execution while reducing injuries.

Training helps firefighters improve their skills. They experience less fumbling and fewer errors because of practice. Firefighters are able to gain confidence in themselves and develop pride in their department.

Training gives firefighters time to work together. This week’s noontime trainings engaged Watch Hill firefighters in various practical evolutions with all the fire apparatus. Pictured here, Capt. Jane Perkins and Firefighters Keith Maine and Rees Harold pack hose after a timed deployment of the blitz fire.
